Below is a list of the scholarships offered by the Poultry Science Department. Students may apply for university, college and departmental scholarships through one application. You can find the scholarship application once you login to myState. Under the banner tab, select Financial Aid and Scholarships. The application is listed as Submit/Revise General Scholarship Application. Please check back as external scholarship opportunities will be listed as available.

Internal Scholarships

Dr. Rex Bushong Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established by Amanda Bushong in memory of her father, Dr. Rex Bushong, in 2020. Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in poultry science demonstrating academic achievement and financial need.


Central By-Products Company Scholarship

Established by Central By-Products. Awarded annually to a worthy male in the Department of Poultry Science.


Edward Ellis Gandy Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Donated by the family and friends of Edward Ellis Gandy in 2006. Awarded to a full time Poultry Science student, with preference given to those from Wayne County, Mississippi. Based on moral character, leadership, and financial need.


James E. Hill Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a full time Poultry Science student showing academic achievement.


Oliver J. Hubbard Memorial Poultry Science Annual Scholarship

Established by the Hubbard Farms Charitable Foundation in 1999 to encourage continued progress in technology and efficiency of production to poultry products. Awarded to a poultry science undergraduate student based on academic achievement and financial need qualifications.


H.F. "Mac" McCarty, Jr. Endowed Scholarship

Established by H.F. McCarty, Jr. Foundation in 2000, and awarded to a full time Poultry Science student. Based on academic achievement, leadership, and financial need.


Mississippi Poultry Association Becky Beard Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Mississippi Poultry Foundation, awarded to a full-time student pursuing a career in the poultry industry.

Mississippi Poultry Foundation Endowed Scholarship

Established by the Mississippi Poultry Foundation in 2016. Candidates must be a full time Poultry Science student. Based on academic achievement with a 3.0 or higher, character, leadership, and financial need.

Mississippi Poultry Foundation Poultry Chain Scholarship

Established by the Foundation Board of Trustees and awards a $1,000 scholarship to students who win statewide in the Poultry Chain and who are majoring in Poultry Science at Mississippi State University.

Mississippi Poultry Foundation Scholarship

Four scholarships in the amount of $4,000 each are awarded yearly to students who are either pursuing careers in the poultry industry or to those whose families are grower members of the Mississippi Poultry Association.

Dr. G. Wallace Morgan Endowed Scholarship

Donated by friends of Dr. Wallace Morgan. Awarded to a full time undergraduate student enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences majoring in Poultry Science. Candidates must be of good moral character, demonstrated academic achievement and leadership ability, financial need, demonstrate a desire and drive for the educational process.


Poultry Science Club Scholarship

Established by the Poultry Science Club in 1978. Candidates must be a full-time student in the Poultry Science Department.


C.T. & Earline F. Ramzy Memorial Scholarship

Established by C.T. & Earline Ramzy, and awarded to a full-time student enrolled in Poultry Science. Recipients must be a resident of Mississippi with priority given to those from Leake County. Awarded based on character, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need.


Chip Rauch Memorial Scholarship

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde M. Rauch, Sr. in 1996 in memory of their son Clyde McRay Rauch, Jr. Recipient must be a full time Poultry Science student. Based on special learning needs, character, leadership, financial need, goal orientation, and professionalism.


Southern Ag Credit Travel Grant

Southern Ag Credit donates $1,500 per year for a scholarship awarded by the Mississippi Poultry Foundation. The scholarship is a travel grant for a Mississippi State University graduate student to present research results at the International Poultry Scientific Forum held in January and February during the International Production and Processing Exposition in Atlanta.

Van H. Stephens Memorial Scholarship

Endowed scholarship set in place in 1987. Awarded to a full-time student in the Department of Poultry Science.


J. Paul Thaxton Endowed Scholarship

Established by the friends and family and endowed by Dr. Yvonne Thaxton in memory of her husband, Dr. J. Paul Thaxton, in 2007. Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in poultry science demonstrating academic achievement, leadership, and financial need.


External Scholarships

Bank Plus Scholarship

Established by BankPlus through the Mississippi Poultry Foundation, and awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in Poultry Science. Based on academic achievement, character, leadership, financial need, and attendance at the Poultry Science Association to present research presentations.

First Financial Bank Scholarship

A gift from First Financial Bank to the Mississippi Poultry Foundation funds this scholarship. Senior undergraduate students are eligible for this scholarship, with demonstrated academic achievement, from a poultry grower family, of good moral character, demonstrated leadership ability, and financial need.

International Paper Scholarship

Established by International Paper through the Mississippi Poultry Foundation, awarded to a full time graduate student. Based on academic achievement with a 3.0 or higher, character, leadership, and financial need. Candidate must be engaged in research identified as part of the Mississippi Initiative for Poultry Industry Research, or a comparable set of research initiatives directed by the member institutions of the Mississippi Poultry Association.
